VANCOUVER — Alberta rockers Nickelback stormed the Juno Awards Sunday night picking up statues in three of the top categories: Album of the Year (for Dark Horse), Group of the Year, and the Fan Choice Award.
“We should just get some chairs and crack some beers – it's been a while,” said Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger on accepting the award for Group of the Year.
“This is the best,” he grinned, when the band returned for the Fan Choice Award, beating out Celine Dion, Feist, Hedley and the Lost Fingers.
After the show, the lead singer said that he'd been rooting for Hedley. “I wanted them to win,” he said. “I was dumbfounded.” He commented on their tour in the U.S., admitting that the band was amazed at how the fans keep turning out. “We are absolutely blown away that they find money for tickets to a Nickelback show in such a bad economy.”
